Summer Fishing

Report Date: July 29, 2018

Sorry for the long delay in my fishing reports. I have been fishing nearly every day and also took a very long needed vacation.

The fishing the past two months has been pretty good. We have done a lot of mahi fishing and swordfishing and a few trips fishing over the reefs for kingfish and blackfin tuna.

The mahi fishing has been fairly consistent. We have caught mahi on all our trips but not in the numbers I would like to see. Last year on most our mahi trips we limited out on mahi. This year we have yet to catch our limit. Granted we have caught many mahi but have yet to catch our limit. There has been no shortage of Sargasso weed to fish to. There has been more Sargasso weed this year than I have ever seen. With that said I expected the weed to hold more fish, but it has not. We still should have a few more months of weed pushing thru and hopefully more mahi with it.

The swordfish bite in June and early July was very consistent catching quite a few swordfish. But the bite has been slow the past few weeks. That is fairly typical for July. The swordfish bite for the most part usually gets a little more consistent in August. September thru November are our biggest migration months for swordfish in South Florida.

June was a great month for kingfishing. We caught our limit of kingfish (2 per person) on every trip.
The kingfish bite slowed down a bit in July but did manage a few good days. We have also managed to catch a few blackfins. The blackfin bite this year has been fair at best.

With August around the corner the mahi bite should get better as well as the swordfish bite. Have I mentioned August/September are probably the two best months to catch Yellowtail snapper. I do quite a bit of night fishing for snapper. We anchor the boat and chum heavy to catch the yellowtail. We also catch a lot of Mangrove snapper and Mutton snapper. So if you want to beat the heat and book a nighttime snapper trip give me a call, text or send me an email.
