May Fishing Fun

Report Date: May 27, 2018

Please make the rain stop! We have had more days of rain and wind in May than I can remember. With that said, the days where we were able to fish have been very good.

We will start with the Blackfin Tuna and Kingfish bite. Both have been excellent. We have been live baiting for the tuna and planer fishing for the Kingfish. The Blackfin Tuna have ranged from 10lbs to 30lbs. Most Blackfins we catch while livebaiting plichards are generally larger than what we catch trolling strip baits. With that said we catch more Blackfin Tunas trolling but are much smaller than the tuna we catch with live bait. Most live bait fishing days we catch anywhere from 3 large tuna to over 8 large tuna. On the trolling days we catch anywhere from 10 to 20 tuna but are much smaller. The Kingfish we catch on the troll average about 10lbs. There is no size or quantity limit on the Blackfin Tunas. The Kingfish limit is 2 per person per day with a minimum 24” fork limit size. We have been catching our limit of Kingfish every trip.

The Swordfish bite has been excellent one day and slow the next, so you just have to be out there fishing on the good days. We have had good trips and slow trips. We have been getting bites on every trip but not getting hooked up. We did manage to catch a respectable 200lb Swordfish on one trip.

The Mahi bite has been decent. There have not been too many calm days to really run offshore and target them. With that said the boats that did fish for them have done fairly well. We should be seeing more Mahi and bigger schools of them any day. Last year we had an excellent Mahi bite that started later in May but lasted thru September.

From now thru August is the best time of year to target just about any species of fish you want. The rest of May is completely booked and have of June and July are booked. So please don't hesitate to book your trip. Give me a call, text or send an email.

Catch Em Up!
