Fall Fishing

Report Date: December 22, 2017

I apologize for the delay in my reports. I have been busy fishing and took a little vacation. Most of the trips we have had are either fishing for sailfish or swordfish.

The sailfish bite so far has been fair at best. We have had good days where we catch 2-3 sailfish and some days where we don't get a bite. The good news is the mahi fishing has remained fairly good. So the days we don't get a sailfish bite we manage a mahi or two. We have caught a few kings while fishing for sailfish but they are rather on the small size 8-10 pounds. We did manage to catch a nice cobia while targeting sailfish. I am still waiting on the next strong cold front to push thru and hopefully get the sailfish bite fired up.

We have had a few swordfish trips in between are sailfish trips. The swordfish bite has been up and down. One week the bite is very good and the next week we can not buy a bite. We actually had swordfish trip the day I am writing this and we did not get a bite. We did manage to catch a 115 lb fish the previous trip. We did have one trip three weeks ago where we hooked a 300 pound plus swordfish. We managed to get her on the wind on six times but lost the fish after she jumped and dove under the boat. The braided line had broke. We think the line may have chaffed on the boats trim tabs. Losing that fish was a heart breaker for sure. On one swordfish trip we did catch two huge thresher sharks weighing over 400 pounds. This is the time of year where quite a few fish over 400 pounds are caught.

January is almost booked solid as most of our charters are looking to catch their first sailfish and or swordfish. Give me a call, text or email to book your next trip. Just as a note, I do receive a lot of calls wanting to book trips with very short notice. I would recommend to call as soon as you know the date, as we book up about a month or two in advance.

Catch Em Up
